Tri Delta Housing Intern
This summer, I was given the opportunity to intern with Tri Delta Housing, where I gained insight into the many ways design can be interpreted and applied to different spaces. The experience gave me a broader understanding of both commercial and residential design. Although sorority houses function as homes, their large scale creates many of the same challenges found in commercial spaces, requiring extensive planning, furnishing, and attention to the needs of a large number of occupants. Through this experience, I learned how to approach design with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, while considering how spaces can support the people who use them.
My experience with Tri Delta extended far beyond selecting furnishings or preparing spaces. I was grateful to have the opportunity to take on a variety of tasks, including helping with marketing aspects of the projects, which allowed me to see how design is communicated and presented beyond the physical space itself, and also helping with capital project planning, gaining insight into the process of planning, budgeting, and coordinating large-scale construction from start to finish. One of the most rewarding parts of the internship was seeing the reactions of the girls as they entered their brand-new houses or experienced spaces that had been renovated. Even when a space only received a few updates, seeing how much of a difference those changes could make in someone's daily life reminded me of the impact that thoughtful design can have. It made me appreciate that interior design is not just about how a space looks, but also about how it makes people feel and how it can improve their everyday experiences.
The images I am including showcase the different projects I had the opportunity to contribute to during my internship with Tri Delta Housing. They highlight the variety of spaces I worked on, the different stages of the design process, and the ways I was able to apply what I was learning. Each project gave me a different perspective on how thoughtful planning and design can transform a space and create a meaningful experience for the people who use it.
